Environmental, Health & Safety Technical Manager (Process Safety Expert)
Bio Products Laboratory (BPL), part of Kedrion Biopharma, is recruiting a Process Safety expert for our Environmental, Health & Safety Technical Manager vacancy.
Located in Elstree, Hertfordshire, BPL manufactures pharmaceutical products derived from human blood plasma. These products are used to treat patients for conditions such as immunodeficiencies, coagulation disorders and critical care (blood volume deficiency).
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with manufacturing process safety expertise, particularly in manual handling and chemical management. Duties & Responsibilities:
Driving Health & Safety
- Through internal stakeholder engagement, design, develop, implement, and manage programmes that grow EH&S through initiatives that mature culture and improve behaviours that underpin site management and performance metrics.
- Create systems and educate site teams to ensure effective investigation of all incidents. Implement and management of the incident recording system (ASSURE).
Document Control
- Develop, manage, and embed legal HS&E polices and procedures to enable compliance and continuous improvement.
Legal and Compliance
- Provide legal and technical guidance. Drive, create and support implementation initiatives to embed controls to mitigate risk arising from new/changing HSE legislation.
- Lead and conduct effective investigations with action close out, improving claims defensibility and performance.
Internal Support
- Provide competent and comprehensive H&S advice and support to line leaders, enabling them to effectively manage HS&E within their areas(s) of responsibility.
- Use of technical knowledge ensure that any project, equipment and change to method of work is compliant, eradicates hazards and improves risk or sustainability.
- Conduct appropriate levels of HS&E assurance activities in support the effective deployment of the HS&E management system ensuring that meets the requirements of ISO 45001 and 14001 standards.
- Support the promotion of continuous improvement through effective communication to staff in the effective management and control of significant HS&E risks within their area of responsibility.
- Using technical knowledge and application provide direction and coaching to stakeholders in order to grow the EH&S capability and maximise performance at all levels.
- Using detailed knowledge ensure that HSE matters are timely and correctly considered and implemented in capex projects (insurance, fire, security, machinery, chemical etc)
External Support
- Liaise with health and safety and environmental regulators where necessary.
Skills & experience to help you within the role –
- Hands on experience working in a manufacturing environment with hazardous chemicals.
- Experience working alongside a Production team.
- Qualified to at least NEBOSH General Certificate level or equivalent.
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- IEMA Certificate in Environmental management
- Health and safety Auditor training internal auditor course (ISO 45001 lead auditor)
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and GxP.
- Awareness and understanding of ISO45001.
- Excellent presentation, oral and written (report writing) communication skills.
- Ability to act on own initiative and think in a logical and systematic manner to identify and deliver solutions to a wide variety of health & safety issues.
- Knowledge of appropriate safety & risk management systems Hierarchy of control
- Knowledge of guidance issued by the HSE.
- Strong experience in writing and reviewing risk assessments.
- Experience in delivering health and safety advice, preferably in a multi-disciplinary organisation.
- Experience of developing a wide range of health and safety training, toolbox talks, briefings, inductions.
- Experience of developing and conducting health and safety audits and inspections.
- Experience of developing policies, procedures, and guidance
