Chemistry Team Leader
Bio Products Laboratory (BPL), part of Kedrion Biopharma, has a new vacancy for a Chemistry Team Leader to join the Quality Department located in Elstree, Hertfordshire.
This exciting first-line management role within a laboratory setting will suit someone with experience supervising staff overseeing day-to-day operations and working to GMP standards.
Duties & Responsibilities will include -
Authority and decision making
- Planning day-to-day work across the department.
- To assist with the delivery of departmental objectives.
- Ensure that KPIs are met.
- Raise and lead Minor + Major + Critical deviations
- Support Critical deviations
- Having awareness of all quality records within own area.
- Provide the necessary support for quality records to ensure they are completed within required timelines.
- Ensure OOSs when reported by the department are raised and investigated in accordance with procedure, supporting completion of investigations (Phase I and II) to ensure the right outcome is achieved.
- Tracking/trending of OOSs
- To recommend change controls and to lead and implement agreed actions.
- Deliver the training programme for the section through departmental metrics and business needs.
- Empowering the team to identifying the need for procedure updates and ensuring correct procedures are in place. Reviewing complex procedural updates, and responsible for approving less complex procedures.
- Ensuring sufficient resources are available, for routine work and any additional work taken on by the department communicating to line management when resource limitations exist
- Assisting with recruitment, such as identifying recruitment needs, reviewing CVs for suitable candidates, performing interviews and liaising with HR regarding selection and on boarding of successful candidates.
- Handling of issues
Budget / Capital Expenditure
- Monitoring of spending on consumables and equipment.
- Identifying the need for and raising orders.
- Contributing to preparation of annual OPEX and CAPEX plans.
People Management
- Responsible for the management of Senior Analysts, Analyst II and Analyst I staff.
- Undertaking annual performance reviews, performance management, disciplinaries (up to verbal warning), training, and mentoring.
- Delivery of the training plan for the section.
- Ensure that effective and target driven one-to-ones are delivered for all grades of analyst.
- Managing teams working multiple shift patterns.
- Managing teams working in laboratories and process areas.
- Supervising third party contractors e.g. servicing of laboratory equipment, testing production areas.
Project Management
Delivering agreed projects within the laboratory and across manufacturing.
Skills & experience to help you within the role –
- BSc in relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated management skills.
- Planning and organisation skills to be able run a section in terms of samples and staffing.
- Capacity to grasp concepts easily.
- Computer literate – competent in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel at an intermediate level.
- Able to ensure high levels of quality are achieved.
- Able to communicate clearly and persuasively with the team.
- Problem solving.
- Extensive laboratory experience and demonstrated competency in managing others
- Competent in 70% of testing performed within department
- Good knowledge/understanding of GMP/GLP.
- Experience of managing or supervising laboratory analysts.
- Experience in OOS and invalid assay investigations.
- Experience of raising, completing, and investigating quality records.
- BSc in relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
- Requirement for business travel.
- Offering support to the department outside of normal hours.
- Requirement to represent the business outside of BPL.
